On Easter Sunday we joyously celebrate the fact that Jesus rose from the dead. This morning at church the reading was 1 Peter 1:1-9,
“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.” (Verses 3-5 MSG)
In his book The Reason for God, Tim Keller states “The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.”
Some reasons to provoke thought include:
- The tomb was empty
- Jesus made post-mortem appearances
- Saul of Tarsus was converted despite vehemently opposing (even killing) Christians
- The boldness of Jesus’ disciples (being willingly martyred for their belief)
- The explosion of Christianity.
Happy Easter from Providence Hill.
